It’s such a pleasure to be sharing WWW readers Jyoti and Marcel’s wedding celebrations today. They had two weddings on the 16th and 17th July 2018, which were held at Newton Hall in Northumberland. On the first day they had a Hindu Wedding Ceremony, which was vibrant and traditional. The second day they held their civil ceremony, in which they incorporated soft colours such as pinks and nudes for a fairytale touch. It was the perfect contrast. Their celebrations were intimate and heartfelt, which can absolutely be seen in the stunning images by Sasha Weddings. Thanks so much to Sasha for sharing them with us today.
There were stunning outfits, portraits by the sea, an incredible dessert table laden with treats and the prettiest florals galore! I just adore the pure romance and the smiles all round. Beautiful. Enjoy it all folks.
The Proposal
16th August 2016 Isle of Sky, Scottish Highland. Surrounded by magnificent views of the mountains up in the Highlands with no one but Marcel and I. We talked about taking a trip up many times and that year we decided to do it. Marcel knew he wanted the moment to be intimate and special so up in the Highlands could not have been more perfect. We picked a trek from some maps we found at the Airbnb. Marcel being Marcel took us off the beaten track. Further and higher we kept walking not knowing where either of us were going. Me panicking and wondering if we’d ever find our way back, we reached the peak of the hills we were trekking. We came up to some stunning open space and decided to take a break and have some food which we had packed. At this point Marcel asked me “Isn’t this the perfect spot?” He was nervous but he had no doubt that this was the moment. And so, with my confirmation he popped the question and to no surprise to him I said “yes!”
The Vision
We wanted 2 relaxed days of fun with our nearest and dearest which were intimate and depicted the 2 of us with a blend of both of our cultures. We knew for the first day (Hindu Wedding Ceremony) we wanted a simple Indian wedding but still have the vibrant colours and ambiance of a traditional wedding. The second day was a contrast to the first. Soft subtle hues of pinks and nudes with an air of fairy-tale romance. We wanted the venue to show through and be the base for our vision which we would work around.
The Planning Process
Thanks to Marcel’s very structured personality the planning process went fairly smoothly. Help from family also helped a great deal. We first began looking for the perfect location to celebrate our wedding. Considering many cities in Italy to Mauritius and everywhere in between. We came to the decision to have our wedding here in the UK. We met in Newcastle and thought that having our wedding in Northumberland would be the perfect location, bringing us back closer to where we first met. We narrowed down to 3 venues which we viewed and loved. But Newton Hall was the one that we both instantly fell in love with. Many of our vendors were recommended through the venue which made organising from a distance much easier. Like many couples I’m sure, we used the internet for inspiration and research. Food was no issue as the venue provided the catering and they did great to accommodate all of our requirements as for the first day we requested Indian street food which they delivered perfectly.
The Venue
Newton Hall – Northumberland
The stunning venue was the perfect backdrop for our Indian, Civil Ceremony and Evening Reception. It fitted perfectly to our style and vision which we had for our 2 big days. We had to do very little to the décor to get the look we wanted. The location as whole was beautiful. It was nice to see that our guests also enjoyed the surroundings by extending their stay and making the most of the coast nearby and countryside.
Your Outfits & Accessories
Jyoti – Both outfits were bespoke from an Indian boutique called Ladlee in Leicester. They were based on similar outfits from in store however I changed the colours, style of top and had it made to measure. I knew exactly what I had in mind, something that was timeless and traditional (particularly for the Hindu wedding). Most of my inspiration came from designers such as Shyamal & Bhumika and Sabyasachi.
My jewellery was from a small jewellers in Leicester who also make items to your specification. I found a pair of earrings which I fell in love with and fit perfectly with my outfit. I had the Tikka (head piece) and Hath Panjas (hand jewellery) made to match. I had an idea in my head of how I wanted my jewellery for the civil to be like so the owner made my set to my specification and had it match my outfit brilliantly.
Marcel went for a Navy Kurta found in a London boutique for the Hindu Ceremony. He decided to also keep his outfits traditional and have a contrast in colour which is what we based the colour for the flowers and draping for the Mandap.

The Readings & Music
We had a small poem written by a close friend of the brides which was read during the ceremony. Song used for walking down the aisle was ‘At Last’ by Etta James, instrumental version. First Dance was “Latch” Sam Smith acoustic version followed by the Disclosure version.
Bridesmaids
Bride’s Sisters. Both wore a traditional Lehenga also from Ladlee for the Indian ceremony and for the second day their outfits were from ASOS. We chose colours that went with both colour themes.
The Flowers & Decor
All flowers for the first day and second day including centre pieces, decorations for aisle and chairs were done by Charlotte from The Finishing Touch Company. Wedding signs, photo booth, favours, scrolls done by the bride and groom.
Your Photographer
We used Sasha Weddings. We loved her style of photography as soon as we found her online and thought she would be perfect at capturing the laid back, natural shots we were after. It was nice not to notice that we were being photographed much of the time. She was great to work with and we could not have asked for better shots.
The Cake
Baker – The Master Cakesmith
We went for a statement piece and turned the wedding cake in to a dessert table. This included 3 cakes – Carrot cake, Bakewell Tart, Peanut Butter Chocolate cake, Oreo Cupcakes and Salted Caramel Brownies.
The Honeymoon
We had 2 weeks of pure serenity in lush green villages and also enjoyed a relaxing time on the coast of Java and Bali, Indonesia.
Memorable Moments
Jyoti – It’s hard to pinpoint just one as there were so many. All the touching speeches, reciting my vows, the feeling of finally walking down the aisle and seeing my family and friends along the way and the intimate moment of our first dance.
Marcel – Again so many to just give one. The 5k run on the morning of the wedding where I had the chance to take a quiet break with only sheep as company and looking in to the sea, rehearsing my speech. The first dance which felt very intimate regardless of all the eyes watching us. Delivering my speech to express my thanks to the most important people in my life and finally just being surrounded by people that truly love us.
Advice For Other Couples
Jyoti – Plan your day around what both of you want for your big day. Those who matter will work around you and will enjoy the day regardless of what table linen you have (should you choose to have one). Don’t fret about minor mishaps on the day, no one will notice and will only ruin your own experience. Enjoy the planning processes together and take in every moment from your day because believe me when I say it goes way too quick!
Marcel – Try to enjoy the planning. even though its busy on the day take a moment to take it all in. Get your vendors and particularly the venue locked down quick because it’s crazy how quick availability goes.
